WE ALL SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM
It's a hot summer day and all you keep thinking about is some way to cool off.
We all know living in Montreal trying to handle those long cold winter months can be quite brutal. Then summer finally arrives and we still find ways to complain about the weather. Do you remember stepping outside with the sun scorching and all of a sudden this unpleasant feeling hits you? What better way to cool off than by having a cone of your favorite ice cream? There's nothing like visiting a famous ice cream parlor or heading down to the new wave of artisanal ice cream shops that have opened recently and taken over the city. And we can't thank them enough.
This is probably the most instagrammed photo of any Montreal ice cream and for good reason. The now famous turquoise wall has got the entire city buzzing. La Diperie makes a very tasty soft serve vanilla ice cream. They also offer many specialty ice creams like the salty Après-Match and you can add a wide variety of dips to top off that awesome ice cream. Make sure to order the small cone as the serving is quite big.
With many great ice cream parlors scattered all over the city, Kem Coba is arguably the best. The constant lineups speak for themselves. Their handmade ice creams are rich in taste and the store offers a flavor of the week. Sit by their colorful benches and enjoy the taste of summer. Avoid the weekends if possible.
This tiny shop offers a great selection of flavors, in fact the Chocolate Raspberry is a must. Located across the famous Schwartz's deli, this is the perfect dessert after a hearty smoked meat sandwich. Their ice cream is homemade and to die for.

Cremerie Dalla Rosa
Nestled in the heart of the Saint-Henri area, situated next to one of our favorite bakeries Rustique Pie Kitchen, is Cremerie Dalla Rosa. Head to the counter of this new ice cream shop and indulge on their wonderful selection of artisanal ice cream. They also offer some tasty homemade ice cream sandwiches worth trying. We liked the fact that the owners use as many local products as possible and the ice cream is made by hand from aAto Z.
Walk in to this beautiful store in the heart of the downtown area with wonderful displays of chocolate all around. The setup to this popular chain is very chic and the service is great. We had to try their specialty; a soft serve cone dipped in chocolate. You can obviously select among many flavors of your choice.
One of the most delicious ice creams in town can be found in the Ahuntsic area. Yes it's true! They also serve a fantastic sorbet and gelato that will bring the child out of you and leave you savouring every moment. We were quite impressed with the friendly staff and the store shining with colorful benches inside as well as outside.
This Montreal staple has been around for 30 years and people keep on coming. Maybe it's because of their quality imported products from Italy or their reasonable prices that have everyone flocking here. Even though they have a restaurant, coffee counter and offer prepared food, people still come mainly for the gelato.
Off the beaten path:
This hot spot would definitely be found on top of our list if it wasn't out of reach for certain people. Located in the Pointe-Claire area, Wild Willy's is the best ice cream in Montreal hands down and definitely worth the trip! If you're an avid ice cream lover like ourselves, then what are you waiting for? They have a wide selection of flavours to try from the classic cone to many custom varieties. This little hut is situated not too far from the river where you can enjoy a nice walk through the paths or sit on a picnic table. There's a park nearby for kids as well.
Oh 3 Singes
You need to venture a bit further to discover this amazing ice cream by heading to the city of Laval. Their sundaes and frozen yogurts are simply delicious. Try out the S'mores chocolate ice cream which is flambéed to add that amazing warm marshmallow taste! As an added bonus, there's the beautiful Park Centre de la Nature that's located nearby which is great for family outings and picnics that include a playground, small zoo, garden and pond.
Another incredible ice cream shop not too far away from Oh 3 Singes and Park Centre de la Nature is also worth the trip. They prepare some of the best soft serve ice cream or you can try some extraordinary creations made with infused fruit or candy.
