Flour, Sugar and Eggs
Do these ingredients sound all too familiar?
As dessert lovers, we can honestly say that we're so grateful to live in such a sweet city. Montreal's charming French influence has drawn some of the best bakeries and desserts in the world. The great thing about living in this beautiful city is the amount of tasty pastries that are easily accessible. From the flakiest croissant to the daintiest French pastries, the vast selection will definitely keep your palate occupied.
After carefully walking through the many streets of MTL and eating our way through many bakeries, we are confident with this short list as our favourites. Don't get us wrong, our city has no shortage of bakeries and nor will we stop exploring. If you are planning a visit, we encourage you to taste these pastries and bakeries. We promise you will not be disappointed.

Écolier @ Guillaume
Situated in the heart of Mile End, we can easily regard it as one of our favourite bakeries in Montreal. Guillaume is renown for their tasty bread but we will go out of our way and travel to this bakery for the Écolier, a delicious pastry similar to chocolate bread. Don't get us wrong, any pastry at this bakery will satisfy your sweet tooth.
Donuts @ Léché Desserts
Montreal is filled with Tim Hortons donut shops and we are all guilty of enjoying their famous Timbits. However, the products from this restaurant chain have become lacklustre over the years. If you really want to bite into a delicious donut, then you must head to Léché Desserts situated on Industrial street in St-Henri. We have tried many of their artisanal donuts and we really can't decide on which we prefer the most. They are so delicious you might as well try them all!
If you have an appetite for sweets, combine Rustique Pie Kitchen and Léché Dessert as they are within walking distance of each other.
Pies @ Rustique Pie Kitchen
This rustic little bakery also situated in St-Henri will definitely charm you. Limited with seats, this bakery is still very cozy, warm and delicious. You can find many sweets to choose from, but its most famous for its seasonal pies. We absolutely love paying a visit here in the dead of winter, where we enjoy a piece of pie with a nice cup of coffee or hot chocolate sitting by the window.
Croissant + Chocolate Babka @ Hof Kelsten
This bakery is definitely another one that tops our list. All we need to say is Chocolate Babka! This pastry is one of their specialties and obviously addictive. We also feel that they make the best croissant in town. We have tried everything from their famous bread to their weekend brunch and nothing has disappointed us so far. Another well situated bakery on the corner of Mont-Royal and Saint-Laurent, this place needs to be on your radar if you are planning a visit to Montreal.
Ice Cream @ Kem Coba
With many great ice cream parlors scattered all over the city, Kem Coba is arguably the best. The constant lineups can speak for themselves. Their handmade ice creams are rich in flavor and taste and they always offer a flavor of the week. Sit by their colorful benches and enjoy the taste of summer. Avoid weekends if possible.
Kouing Amman @ Au Kouing Amann
Au Kouing Amann is easily regarded as one of our favourite spots for inexpensive treats in Montreal. This very small bakery specializes in Kouing Amann, a buttery and flaky classic French pastry. The bakery also makes an outstanding croissant, but we are too loyal to the famous Kouing Amann that we must always order one. If you happen to be in the heart of Mont-Royal, this place is a definite must try.
Croissant @ Fous Desserts
Despite our mention that Hof Kelsten makes the best croissant in town, we are slightly divided on this opinion as the croissant at Fous Desserts is equally as good. This comfy little bakery is situated on Laurier street and offers a wide range of pastries and chocolates. As you walk in, you will find a beautiful display of chocolates waiting for you. If you are visiting in the winter, their homemade hot chocolate itself is worth the stop since we regard it as the very best in Montreal.
Macaroons @ Point G
Are you looking for a little taste of Paris? Montreal's hot spot for macaroons can be found at boutique Point G. Look no further as they offer the tastiest macaroons in the city. A wide array of delicious flavours will tempt you from the moment you walk in. If you have a bigger budget then you might as well try them all.
