You probably are well aware of certain apps we will mention, but allow us to recommend our top ranked travel applications that are currently out there.
You should be well prepared for any situation. Download these fabulous free apps on any iPhone or Android for your own travel use. They’re real lifesavers!
This is truly an awesome app to arrange that huge packing list before leaving home. There are over 600 items to choose from and spread across 25+ categories from clothes to pack, baby items, beach items and much more. This is the most practical app to use before your vacation as it avoids those last-minute headaches. Why release your stress only when you’re on vacation? Do it before! There are many practical apps to create your own packing list or use the Pro version which includes more content, but this one tops our list.
For a long time, people have gone on their browser and would refer to Google Translate for that quick answer they are looking for. If you want an application that’s more responsive and far more accurate, then we recommend iTranslate. It’s fully responsive in over 90 languages that can be translated into words, phrases, different meanings and text. It’s really quick and allows you to send your translated message by email, text message, Twitter or Facebook. They also have a Pro version called iTranslate Voice with an accurate voice recognition option for $7.99 to enhance those conversations. This app is a must for any traveler in a foreign country.
In my opinion, this is the best messenger application for smartphones and it’s definitely the most popular right now. Quickly send text messages, images, video and audio to anyone in the world if you don’t want to make that expensive long-distance phone call or if you ran out of international talktime minutes on a calling card. Find a free Wi-Fi network at most shops, bars, or restaurants that offer free internet to enable the program worry-free.
Quick tip: You can use your network data for usage. However, you should only send text messages and check it a couple of times a day to avoid roaming charges. Don’t keep the application on standby either as it incurs charges. This method is still better and less expensive than talking on the phone, unless you found an amazing talk and text plan.
At first, we weren’t too sure how to use it, but this is a real cost saver. Connect with friends from your contacts list for free. You can text, send video and more importantly, make a phone call anywhere in the world as long as your contacts have the application on their own phone as well. This is a great tool to save on those expensive long-distance calls. Phone carriers will hate us for this one! You can also buy credits to make a call with any person on your contact list that doesn’t own the Viber application.
It’s already installed on your phone, but Google maps offers an offline map that doesn’t eat up any of that much needed cellular data when visiting a foreign country and helps avoid those extravagant fees. Search, download and save your city or POI (point of interest) and the coordinates are available freely and accurately. Find detailed maps, addresses and even buildings anywhere in the world. Kind of cliché to put the most popular app on this list, but hey it’s popular for a reason. City maps 2 go is another popular app we recommend.
XE Currency Calculator
XE Currency is our recommendation for those travelers on the go. It’s a great free app which is completely accurate for your need of a quick currency conversion. Don’t take any risks when counting your money!
Unless you have been living under a rock and you never heard of TripAdvisor, you should know that it’s one of the most reliable applications for travelers. This useful app has a review of practically any travel-related content like a hotel, restaurant or tourist attraction anywhere in the world. It’s practical for everyday use or for booking your trip on the go. If ever you're not too sure of what to do, just revert back to TripAdvisor for some recommendations on your inquiries or consult their rankings lists by city. They have a 5 point star ranking system based on the reviews submitted by users which can make decisions a lot easier.
The Weather Network
We tend to forget about the weather until the waning days before traveling, unless we’re headed to a beach. There’s nothing like reassuring yourself of weather conditions when traveling. Be well prepared for the forecast and allow yourself to dress appropriately for those unexpected weather conditions.
One of the biggest factors that travelers forget before leaving on vacation is resetting their clocks and watches to the proper time zone. Get the correct local time as well as the time difference with your hometown all on one page. It’s so simple and very useful, especially when you want to make a phone call back home.
FlightAware Flight Tracker
Save yourself from headaches while traveling with last minute surprises by using a flight tracker app. With FlightAware, users are kept up-to-date with complete flight details, including exact locations of commercial flights, departure and arrival times. It’s handy also for any re-routed flights and if you’re connecting between flights.
